Volunteer Coaching Opportunities

Who Can Volunteer?
Volunteer coaches must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Successfully complete a criminal background check
- Enjoy working with children
- Demonstrate positive character and sportsmanship
- Be dependable and committed throughout the season
- Support the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Johnson County
Previous coaching experience is helpful—but not required. If you have a passion for helping young people grow, we'll help you succeed.
What You'll Do
Volunteer coaches are responsible for:
- Leading practices and games
- Teaching age-appropriate fundamentals
- Encouraging teamwork and positive attitudes
- Creating a safe and inclusive environment
- Communicating with families throughout the season
- Modeling respect, integrity, and good sportsmanship
- Helping every player feel valued, regardless of skill level

Do I need coaching experience?
No. Experience is helpful but not required. We welcome volunteers who are passionate about working with children and creating a positive experience.
How old do I have to be?
Volunteer coaches must be 18 years of age or older.
Do I need a background check?
Yes. All volunteer coaches must successfully complete a criminal background check before working with youth.
How much time does coaching require?
Time commitments vary by sport, but most coaches attend one or two practices each week along with weekly games during the season.
Can I coach if my child is playing?
Absolutely! Many of our volunteer coaches are parents whose children participate in our programs.
Will I receive training?
Yes. We provide guidance, expectations, and resources to help you feel prepared and supported throughout the season.
Is this a paid position?
No. Volunteer coaching is an unpaid position, but the impact you make on young lives is priceless.
